What is Rainbow Summer Camp?
Rainbow Summer Camp is a week long opportunity for children to explore the following topics:
self and family identity (including gender identity and expression, race, abilities, and diverse family structures)
recognizing similarities and differences and celebrating diversity
recognizing unfairness/injustice and that unfairness hurts; and
developing advocacy skills to speak up for themselves, peers, and others.
What else?
Rainbow Summer Camp will engage children in fun, interactive, developmentally appropriate and accessible discussions and activities focused on justice, intersectionality, and allyship while supporting students sharing their voice, passions, and lived experiences with their communities.
We will learn about BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ artists and explore identity, diversity, injustice, and advocacy through those artists’ mediums. We will work together as a group to create a Speak Up project designed and created by camp participants that will be shared with the community.
Note: We will host local BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ community artists - including a Drag Story Hour reader - to share their art and how art has impacted their life with Rainbow Summer Camp participants.
Most importantly, Rainbow Summer Camp is an inclusive and affirming space to BE WHO YOU ARE! All children are affirmed in Rainbow Summer Camp, including LGBTQ+ and gender diverse children of any race, country of origin, culture, and ability.
